Projectworks has been named to the 2026 Inc. 5000, the annual ranking of fastest-growing private companies in the United States, for the second time. Building a global software business is not an easy thing to do. So when our growth shows up on a stage as competitive as the US market, it means a lot.

The 2026 numbers

Projectworks placed No. 1032 overall, on three-year revenue growth of 340%. We also came in at No. 44 in the Bay Area and No. 91 in Software, two of the most crowded corners of the US market. This comes after we first made the list in 2024.

We are proud of it, but what matters to me is less the ranking and more what sits behind it. Making the list for a second time tells me we are meeting a real need for consulting firms, and that the need is a global one. Firms all over the world are wrestling with the same problems, and more of them are choosing us to help solve them.

How the Inc. 5000 ranks companies

If you are not familiar with the Inc. 5000, here is the short version. Inc. has published it for more than forty years, ranking the fastest-growing private companies in the United States by revenue growth over three years. The bigger the percentage jump in revenue, the higher you place. Companies have to be privately held, in the US, for-profit, and every entry passes Inc.'s editorial review.

What I like about it is that it cannot be talked up with a good story. It measures one thing, and either the growth is there or it is not.

Founded in New Zealand, taken to the world

Projectworks began life as a time-tracking tool inside a consulting firm.

Back in 2001, our co-founder Doug Taylor built a simple internal tool to solve a problem at Provoke Solutions, the Wellington consultancy where the founding team worked. Over the years it grew into something the whole firm ran on. People who joined Provoke kept saying they wished they had used it at their last job. In 2016 Matt Hayter turned that internal tool into a business, and Projectworks launched properly in 2019.

That origin still shapes the Projectworks today. It was built for consulting firms by people who ran one, so it fits how these firms actually work instead of forcing them into software designed for a different type of company.

I came to Projectworks from a different place. For years I ran Nexient, a US software consultancy, and I felt the pain of scaling a firm without the right system underneath it. We looked hard for a platform to run the business on and never found one that fit. I met the Projectworks founders after my time at Nexient, and the moment I saw the product I wished it had existed while I was scaling my own firm. That is what convinced me to join and help take it global. Helped along by our Series A we raised in 2025, Projectworks now supports more than 20,000 consultants across 56 countries, with teams in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Why firms are switching now

Here is what most software built for consulting firms gets wrong. It is built for either the very small or the very large.

The big enterprise platforms will not really talk to you unless you have hundreds of people on staff, and most of them are heavy and slow to use. The point tools do one job well and leave you stitching five of them together, with no single view of the firm. Most growing consulting firms sit in the gap between those two, and for years they have been underserved. They end up running the business on spreadsheets that cannot quickly answer basic questions like which projects are actually making money, who is on the bench three weeks out, or where margin is leaking before month-end reveals it.

That is the problem firms are moving to solve. When you can see pipeline, delivery, utilization, and financial performance in one place, you stop guessing and start growing profitably. The firms coming to us want to run the whole operation on one system that was built for how they work, not another tool to bolt onto the pile. And what that system can do for them is changing fast.

The product behind the growth

This is the part I am most excited about. We are taking the fuel from our growth and putting it straight back into the product, so the system these firms run on keeps getting better. And the biggest reason it is moving so fast right now is AI.

We have built AI into Projectworks across the platform, aimed squarely at the jobs where it earns its keep. For a consulting firm, that means winning more work and taking the back-office admin off people's plates so they can get back to clients.

Three things sit at the heart of that. Our consulting CRM and AI proposals turn your real project data into client-ready drafts in a fraction of the time, so you can bid on more work without the quality slipping. Kea is an AI teammate for the back office, starting with resourcing, that handles the grind like covering last-minute leave or finding the best-fit person for a project. And our MCP connects Projectworks to the AI tools your team already uses, like Claude and ChatGPT, so your project, resourcing, and financial data is right there in the workflow. All three are in beta or early access today, with customers already putting them to work and wider access opening through the year.

AI is handing consulting firms an advantage they have never had before, and we get to build the system that puts it to work. I think it changes what a firm this size is capable of.

Thank you

None of this happens without our customers. The firms that choose to run their firms on Projectworks, and that keep pushing us to make it better, are the reason we are on this list at all. A second Inc. 5000 is their result as much as ours. Thank you for being part of it.
